PIOW September '25 Newsletter

As summer winds down and fall quickly approaches, we’re excited to carry the energy of the season into a busy and meaningful stretch of community programming. PIOW has a fantastic lineup of events designed to bring people together, spark connections, and strengthen our shared commitment to LGBTQ+ equity and belonging. From a fun afternoon of pickleball, to a networking night with YW Boston at Dorchester Brewing Company, to an October ERG leadership gathering co-hosted with the MA LGBT Chamber of Commerce, there are plenty of opportunities to engage, learn, and connect with peers across our community. We look forward to seeing you at one (or more!) of these upcoming events.

PIOW - Queer Pickleball Boston Tournament Fundraiser

 

We’ll be serving up some fun (and friendly competition) at our Pickleball Tournament this Saturday, September 6 from 1-4 pm at the English High School in Jamaica Plain.

 

This in-person event is a great opportunity to showcase your pickleball skills while supporting a good cause and networking with your peers. Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the game, everyone is welcome to participate. We'll have options to just come and network, learn the rules of the game from an experienced coach, or if you have experience, enter into the tournament! Thanks to Kendra Scott Jewelry's generous donation, one lucky participant will be selected at random to win this lovely Kendra Scott Pickleball Necklace ($75 value - below left) and all participants will receive a PIOW pickleball (below right).

Mark your calendars for our September 18 networking event at Dorchester Brewing Company from 5:30-8pm, co-hosted with our community partner YW Boston.

 

This event is free to attend, and all are welcome! Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the venue — so come hungry (and thirsty), but bring your wallet and be prepared to meet some great people! 

Ample parking is available next door at the Plumbers Union at 1240 Massachusetts Ave until 10pm or there is plenty of on street parking on both sides of Mass Ave.

Pride in Our Workplace will co-host an ERG Networking Night with our Community Partner, the Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce, generously hosted by our latest sponsor Wolf & Company at their beautiful offices at 255 State Street, Boston (Long Wharf).

 

This intimate gathering is designed to bring together ERG leaders, DEIB professionals, and team members from both organizations’ networks—creating a powerful space for cross-industry relationship building, idea sharing, and resource exchange.

  • Boston Mayoral Candidate Town Hall - PIOW is collaborating with The Queer Neighborhood Council and other local LGBTQ+ organizations to support a town hall with Boston Mayoral candidates, focusing on LGBTQ+ issues, in October. Date is currently being coordinated with candidates.  More details will be provided in our next newsletter and on our Events page.

  • Job Search Insights - We’re planning a job search webinar this fall to support LGBTQ+ professionals navigating career transitions. The session will target early to mid-career applicants and will be open to the full PIOW and Community Partner communities. We expect this will be  late Oct to early November, so keep an eye out for details in an upcoming newsletter.

      Join The History Project on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 7:00 PM ET for a special virtual curator talk with Ellice Patterson, founder and artistic director of Abilities Dance. Ellice’s work transforms oral histories into powerful, inclusive dance pieces that celebrate disabled identity and reimagine how we hold memory in public life. As an artist, advocate, and leader, she merges storytelling and movement to expand visibility and equity for disabled artists in Boston and beyond. RSVP Here

      • Summer Hot Meals for Seniors 55+: Register here.

  • Mass Transgender Political Coalition
    • Name Change Clinics: Ongoing name change clinics at various locations. Find dates and location times here. 
    • All programming information can be found linked here. Programs include: 
      • The Trans Leadership Academy supports trans and nonbinary people with workforce development, mentoring and training, and material and financial support in an affirming environment.
      • G.E.A.R. (Gender Euphoria and Affirmation Resources) provides trans and nonbinary people in Massachusetts with access to products, garments, and resources that affirm who they are at no cost.
      • REACH (Relief and Emergency Assistance for Community Hope) provides transgender and nonbinary people in Massachusetts with emergency funds for a variety of expenses.
      • The Identity Document Assistance Network (IDA Network) provides guidance, support and financial assistance for trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive people living in New England who are seeking to update their legal name and/or gender on federal and state documents.

      • We’re excited to announce that our business conference is back on October 31, 2025 at Babson College in Wellesley, MA!

        This year’s theme, celebrates the strength of collaboration across our network of LGBTQ-owned businesses, corporate partners, and community allies. From inspiring speakers to powerful networking opportunities, this half-day event will bring together hundreds of professionals who are driving economic equity across Massachusetts.
         

        We welcome members who sell physical products to consider a VIP vendor table for the day, where you'll be front and center tabling in the main conference hall! And of course, we’ll wrap it all up with a festive Halloween Happy Hour from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Dressing up highly encouraged

  • Mayor's Office of LGBTQIA2S+ Advancement
    • Immediate Action Required by LGBTQIA2S+ organization leaders - Recent changes have created new challenges for many LGBTQIA2S+ organizations — from funding cuts to staffing shifts to increased community needs. To better understand these impacts and figure out how the Equality Fund at the Boston Foundation and MOLA can best support you, we’re launching the LGBTQIA2S+ Organizational Impact Survey.

  • The Partnership - Leadership Development for Rising Executives: Enrollment Open for the Next Generation Executive (NGE) Program 
    • The Partnership’s NGE Program is now accepting nominations for the Class of 2026. Designed for high-performing Directors, VPs, and other senior leaders recognized for their C-suite potential, this intensive program provides strategic insights, skills, and a diverse national peer network for executives to advance and lead effectively at the highest levels. In a survey of the 2025 cohort of 60 leaders from 15 states, 100% of participants said the program helped them become more strategic leaders, and 94% reported a positive impact on their career progression.  

       

      Learn More: Participants benefit from world-class faculty, personalized executive coaching, and a national cross-sector peer cohort.
